Thoughts: So, Teochew porridge is normally very plain porridge served with dishes like pickled vegetables. And so, 潮州粥 "Teochew porridge" is not the same as 炒粥 "Fried porridge". This dish is prepared using 干鱿鱼丝 dried shredded squid, 芋头条 yam slices/cubes, 虾米 dried shrimps, 切碎韭菜 chopped chives sauteed with porridge mix and added with soya sauce in the process of frying the porridge, I also found some pork lard somewhere in the porridge mixture. The bowl of fried porridge was topped with 油条 Char Koay (Chinese fritters) and some onions. The entire concoction was slightly sweet but thinking about it, it's not such a boring porridge after all but unlike the normal porridge, the full flavored fried porridge isn't for everyday consumption! I'd say the fried porridge is a kind of fusion teochew porridge with a twist! The rm$15 portion (that is the only size offered) is probably good for 3 person consumption.
Next is the 螃蟹炒米粉 Crab Bee Hoon where the minimum order is around rm$90 with 3 crabs fried with the rice noodle (very expensive!). A very interesting dish!
The restaurant opens everyday at 5:30pm (except Monday), and if you crave for a fried porridge as upper; not to worry, it opens after mid-night until 1:30am. Other kinds of seafood like 攋尿蝦 Mantis Shrimp (Lai Liu Har), Fresh fish, Cockles, Lala etc will arrive everyday to the shop around 6pm (all life ones), and therefore, seafood dishes are as fresh as it can be. The 蒸啦啦 Steamed Lala sampled was a good example of how fresh it was; right from the delivery truck to the kitchen and then to the table. In my opinion, it was unfortunately steamed without enough garlic, ginger and rice wine!
Other popular dishes here are Hokkien Mee (KL udon dark sauce style), Steamed egg Mantis prawn, Salted egg baby octopus; all seem to go well with beer! No worries about parking here as the restaurant is hidden away from the busy part of Berkeley Garden. The restaurant is usually much more crowded in the weekends!
