05.02.2017 Lunch
@ The Grand Taj at USJ 25 One City
A.GF.06 Jalan USJ 25/1B
印度烤餅 Taj Naan $9
印度马萨拉茶 Masala Tea $4.75
Thoughts: Our family frequented One City many times when it first opened in December 2013, we frequented this place a lot in 2014 until Main Place opened and later USJ Damen.
That Taj Naan I ordered is a Naan version stuffed with chopped tandoori chicken tikka and fresh herbs. You really have to eat the Indian pizza with a little bit of both the orange (like some version of "dull") and green sauce (like "mint" salsa). This Indian Pizza is just great, a good lunch shared with my son.
But it was best to end it with the Masala Tea.
Although it seems "The Grand Taj" sounds predominantly perhaps of Northern Indian Cuisine. The Captain at the door was selling it as a Pakistani and Northern Indian Cuisine restaurant! (that's what the sign board says as well). As our table was near the kitchen window, we could see every plate that comes out from the kitchen and there all look really nice.
The service is good despite we only ordered one dish and the Masala Tea. Both of us agree this place is worth another visit especially the Biryani Rice.
One City advertised as the "Ever opening city"! when first opened around/before Christmas of 2013. I remember it was "quite classy" then when it was "NEW". It was the open air concept and the sky park on the top floor plus some nice shops (both eateries and window shopping), and parking was free for many months in the beginning.
Then Main Place (after 15 years of Abandoned Construction), a revived Re-Construction Project by Bina Puri Properties Sdn Bhd and opened a few months later in July 2014. And USJ Damen (Pavilion no 2) opened a year ago in January 2016. Many USJ residents have 3 more choices to Jalan-Jalan which is USJ Summit, USJ Damen, and USJ Main Place. USJ residents can also opt for Subang Parade and Empire Subang, plus Sunway Pyramid. All within reach around 15 minutes depending which part of USJ one is driving from and all without paying Toll.
Today's visit clearly shows One City has been beaten by the other USJ Malls (my viewpoint). I noticed there were no CNY decorations and very few Chinese and Indians. In fact mostly Malay families. Many shops on the 2nd floor were closed and there is some $1-$3 type deal thing one of the winds of the 2nd floor.
Few Chinese Restaurants (including WongKok and Signature Taiwanese etc) already "Gulung Tikar", the new Grand Taj, however, was a welcoming new restaurant here.
Opening hours: 12:00am - midnight (that's what I saw)
