Thoughts: This pub is slightly off-roads in Millerpoint, away from the busy pubs and eateries nearer to Circular Quay. But it is in "The Rocks" area in Sydney. This is really one of the oldest pub in Sydney; with a history dating back to 1843, when the Hotel was established by George Paton, build by convicts! The Hotel is build using sandstones; definitely a must visit place.
On a Sunday afternoon, it is quite place for lunch with beer. With the old decos, a bit eerie feeling about this place, with the sandstone walls looking at you!
Gamberetti Pasta or Prawn Spagetti was excellent (expensive) and what better if not to go with a James Squire beer. Incidently, James Squire (or James Squires) was a first fleet convict transported to Australia in the very later 18th Centry. James Squire is credited with the first successful cultivation of hops in Australia around the start of the 19th century. First officially brewing beer in Australia in 1790; James later founded Australia's first commercial brewery making beer using barley and hops in 1798. So, everything is history at "The Hero of Waterloo Hotel", including the "James Squire" Beer!
