Thoughts: Not sure if it is called "Fried Dough Sticks" or maybe even "Chinese Deep fried Dough Sticks" (some calls it "Chinese Churros"!). In Mandarin it is probably refer to as Youtiao (traditional Chinese: 油條; simplified Chinese: 油条; pinyin: Yóutiáo)! BUT in Cantonese, it is called 油炸鬼 which literally means "Goreng Hantu" (in Malay) or "Oil-fried Ghost"!

The story of 油炸鬼 (origin name is probably called "油炸檜", "Fried Dough Sticks" or "Goreng Hantu" or "Oil-fried Ghosts" or the name of "Churreria" in Hong Kong). One of the stories about the origins of "油炸鬼" is an interesting one; which happens in the 宋朝 Song Dynasty, where there lived a treacherous Prime Minister called 秦檜 Qin Hui. AND the reason for the creation of "油炸檜/油炸鬼" was because later generations hated this treacherous prime minister who once designed to frame and killed the loyal general 岳飛 Yue Fei. The people hated 秦檜 Qin Hui so much that they created this "民間小食 Folk Snacks" to vent their Anger. It means that after 秦檜 Qin Hui and 他的老婆 his wife died, in addition to hoping that they would 下地獄 go to hell, the important thing was for 閰羅王 "King Luo (King of Hell)" to punish the couple by boiling them in a big wok of boiling oil. Incidentally, the 2-in-1 Dough Stocks somehow represent the couple !
Youtiao (traditional Chinese: 油條; simplified Chinese: 油条; pinyin: Yóutiáo), known in 南中國 Southern China as 油炸鬼 "Yao Char Kway (in Cantonese)", and this long golden-brown deep-fried strip of wheat flour dough of Chinese origin is still popular in 香港 Hong Kong and 廣州 Guang Zhou and of course the migration of Chinese to the South East Asia also brought the Sinful fried snack to other East and Southeast Asian countries.
