Based on historical information from some self-proclaimed property experts, it is believed that the name “蒲种 Puchong” is derived from the green heron, known as "蒲种鳥 Burung Pucung or Burung Puchong" in 馬來文 Malay; which was once found in abundance in the Puchong area. The development of Puchong, formerly a 錫礦開採 tin mining and 橡膠種植區 rubber plantation area began to gain momentum in the 1980s, when Putrajaya became the new federal administrative capital and Cyberjaya started to grow. By the 1990s, Puchong had become a central location and more neighborhoods began to emerge in the area, resulting in a population explosion. Its position, between 吉隆坡 Kuala Lumpur and 和布城 Putrajaya, and close to 雙威城 Bandar Sunway, 舊巴生路 Old Klang Road and 武吉加里爾 Bukit Jalil, made it popular with homeowners and investors alike.
Iconic projects by the developer include 蒲種IOI商場 IOI Mall Puchong which opened in 1996, and Puteri Mart is Puchong’s first private wet market, which opened in June 2007; and that means the market is now in its 17th year operation. Inside Puteri Mart is the huge food court previously known as "928 美食中心 or 928 Food Court Centre" but recently changed its name to "老蒲种美食中心 Old Puchong Food Avenue" which currently houses maybe around 40-50 food stalls with more than 100 tables with a capacity of 400-500 customers. "老蒲种美食中心 Old Puchong Food Avenue" is now the 4th Food Court Operator which started 2 years ago in March 2022, but some of the hawker stalls here that has operated maybe 15 or more years in the Food Court.
