Sample today were Turkish desserts of "土耳其果仁蜜餅 Turkish Baklava", they are the creation of "Lale Cafe & Bakery" as seen in the box that packs the Turkish Baklava desserts. Prices of the desserts are from rm$1.50 - rm$3.50 per piece; for those who have a sweet tooth, the Turkish desserts maybe hard to resist. However, most of them proved to be too sweet for my liking; except for the puffy 果仁蜜餅 Baklava. 土耳其果仁蜜餅 Turkish Baklava is said to be the most popular sweet pastries of 奧斯曼美食 Ottoman cuisine. It is the cuisine of the 奧斯曼帝國 Ottoman Empire (between 14th to 20th Century) and its continuation in the cuisines of 土耳其 Turkey, 希臘 Greece, the 巴爾幹 Balkans, and parts of the 高加索 Caucasus and the 中東 Middle East. The Turkish Baklava variant is traditionally made by filling between the layers of dough with 開心果 pistachios, 核桃 walnuts or 杏仁 almonds. In many parts of Turkey, Baklava is often topped with 奶油 kaymak (a creamy diary product of milk from goat, sheep, cow or buffalo) or 冰淇淋 ice cream. It is a deliciously rich, buttery, sweet dessert with baked fluffy layers. For rm$3.50 a piece, the traditional Turkish delicacy is definitely worth sampling at least once! The sweet puffy and creamy dessert goes well with the Jaf 茶(純綠色茉莉花茶) Jaf Tea (Pure Green Jasmine) from Sri Lanka.
Another highly recommended imported item is the "椰棗杏仁果巧克力 Choco Palm" which is concoction of 杏仁果 Almonds, 巧克力 Chocolate and 椰棗 Dates. The Trio, all have universal taste appeal, where dates are known to have "healing powers", but not sure it is really that "low-sugar", but the dark chocolate version should be a good choice. The trio of "Almond-stuffed chocolate dates" comes in rm$20 500gram pack, while a 5kg carton box is priced at rm$175! After sampling a few, the "Chocolate covered Dates" can be pretty addictive.
Another interesting item from Turkey is the "Eti" Brand; it is said to be one of the first brand when thinking about Turkey chocolate, founded by Firuz Kanatlı in the early 1960s. Eti's products includes biscuits, chocolate & chocolate products, wafers, crackers, cake & pie, healthy & digestive products, breakfast products, frozen products, chilled snacks and baby products. Eti has eight manufacturing plants in Eskişehir, Bozüyük, Konya and Craiova, Romania. The rm$5.30 土耳其Eti開心果巧克力 Eti Adicto Chocolate with Pistacchios wasn't too bad at all.
