冰師傅小碗菜 Bing Shifu Mini Bowl is a modern 自助式 self-service "小碗菜 mini bowl" (xiao wan cai) 理念 concept is 源自中國 from China. BUT the brand name don't exist in China as it was created locally in Malaysia. 冰師傅小碗菜 Bing Shifu Mini Bowl now have at least 4 official outlets across 巴生谷 Klang Valley (Besides USJ10, the other 3 is at 舊古仔路 Kuchai Lama, 哥打白沙羅 Kota Damansara, and 蕉賴 Cheras Traders Park). The Fast Food Mixed Rice from China came to USJ 10 Taipan around July 2023 and this is also the 首家冰師傅小碗菜 First Bing Shifu location in Malaysia.
冰師傅小碗菜 Bing Shifu Mini Bowl in USJ10 is at a corner shop lot (just behind McDonalds) and possibly the best looking Chinese Mixed Rice air-conditioned dining option in Taipan area. As usual items like 例湯 soup, 白開水 water, and 中國茶 Chinese tea are 免費 free BUT 白飯必須付費 white rice is rm$2.20 per bowl. The "小碗菜 Xiao Wan Cai"的概念 concept is described as an 經濟飯的升級版 "Atas" (upgraded) version of economy rice (or some called it "雜飯 Zhap Fan"), where 菜餚預先烹調好 dishes are pre-cooked, 分裝到小碗 portioned into small bowls or 小盤子 plates, and 自助服務櫃檯上保溫 kept warm or 用保鮮膜蓋好 covered with cling wrap at a self-service counter. The "小碗菜 Xiao Wan Cai" model generally offers 顯著的衛生優勢 noticeable hygiene advantages over traditional local mixed rice (經濟飯 economy rice / 雜飯 zhap fan) shops.
The concept of "小碗菜 Xiao Wan Cai", which translates to "小碗裡的菜餚 small bowl dishes", has 兩個截然不同的背景 two distinct contexts in China: its 歷史悠久的烹飪根源 historical culinary roots and its 大規模快餐潮流的現代爆發 modern explosion as a massive fast-food trend.
Historically, the concept of serving individual dishes in small ceramic bowls or small clay pots is heavily derived from 瀏陽蒸煮 Liuyang Steamed Dishes. Possibly around 500 years ago during the 明朝時期 Ming dynasty, 客家人移民 Hakka migrants moving to the "大圍山 Dawei Mountain" area in 瀏陽 Liuyang, 湖南省 Hunan province, developed this method of cooking. 為了節省時間和柴火 to save time and firewood while working, they placed 多個小碗 multiple small bowls 裝滿 filled with 蔬菜 vegetables, 肉類 meats, 當地發酵黑豆 local fermented black beans, and 茶油 tea oil 直接放在大木製蒸籠裡的米飯上 directly on top of the rice inside a large wooden rice steamer. When the 米飯蒸好後 rice finished cooking, all the 小菜也同時出爐了 small dishes were ready simultaneously!
在中國 in China, the 爆發式增長 explosive rise of "小碗菜 Xiao Wan Cai" concept as a 專門的快餐類別 dedicated fast-food category maybe began around 2017 to 2019 and truly peaked alongside the rapid growth of food delivery apps especially during Pandemic period (like 美團 Meituan established in 北京華北地區 Beijing and 餓了麼 Ele.me established in 上海華東地區 Shanghai) and the implementation of 中國反食物浪費運動 China's anti-food-waste campaigns.
