It's named after the Whiteaway Laidlaw & Co. department store that was one of its original occupants. The building was once considered one of the finest office blocks in Penang. It's now a renovated building with 零售店 retail shops, 餐廳 eateries, 咖啡店 coffee shops, and 展覽空間 exhibition space, and which alos houses the 馬來西亞旅遊局 Malaysia Tourism office.
