Thoughts: To cut losses, GCH Retail started to aggressively shut stores in 2019; by 2021, it had closed more than half of them. It undertook a revamping, resizing and repositioning exercise to return to the black and opened Giant Mini stores. Subsequently GCH has its name changed to DFI! And Early this year in February, the Hong Kong based DFI Retail Group has signed an agreement with a leading Malaysian retail group led by local businessman and entrepreneur Datuk Andrew Lim for them to buy all of the former's food businesses in Malaysia including the iconic Giant brand. The deal was expected to be completed in early March.
