Thoughts: The 華為AD80HW的顯示器 Huawei Display AD80 23.8 FHD Monitor at rm$548 is now almost 13 months old, bought on the November 28, 2021, still works well to-date, connecting to the OLD Surface 4 which is now acting as a desktop (without opening its lid) as the screen flickering on the S4 is now forever. The Surface 4 is now 5 years+ old.
In January this year, bought a "綠聯USB3.0 6口HUB集線器 UGREEN USB-C Hub 6in1 PD" at rm$119.90 on the January 5, 2022 to try connecting the Note 8 to the 23.8 Huawei Monitor; Samsung DEX was OK but the connection method really did overheat the Note 8. This idea of connecting Note 8 to the Monitor was abandoned and the HUB was returned to Lazada.
For Christmas this year and at a hefty rm$1699, purchased the expensive "華為顯示器 Huawei Mateview 28.2" over 28 inch Huawei Monitor from Lazada, the Model was already available last year. Not a 16:8 monitor but rather 3:2 ratio, not only wider than the 23.8 but also much taller; Both the 3:2 aspect ratio and a mediocre 60Hz refresh rate plus without touch-screen capability and the price tag of rm$1699, probably wasn't too exciting to most consumers. The 3:2 aspect ratio compared to 16:9 will not likely get approval for people who needs the monitor mostly to watch movies BUT the 3:2 is a distinctive design element that should work better for productivity tasks involving one or two side-by-side on-screen windows OR multiple windows work area on a single monitor.
These are probably the downside of the Monitor:
60Hz (maybe not too smooth for higher end games where 144Hz is preferred)
Cannot put the MateView on a monitor arm
3:2 aspect ratio (not as goods as the 16:9 for watching movie)
Box did not come with HDMI cable (MiniDP cable in the box)
No Left Right tilting (only Front Back tilting)
Expensive compared to other brands (USD$385 or 320GBP)The monitor did not come with a standard HDMI cable! BUT rather a miniDP cable and a USB-C to USB-C cable. For older notebooks without the USB-C port will require to purchase a standard HDMI cable for connection to the Monitor!
The Mateview 28.2 comes fully assembled, comes with the following specifications (not all listed):
4k+ (3840 x 2560) IPS display13mm at the bottom to 9.3mm at the top panel110mm of height adjustment23° of tilt (18° down, 5° up) forward and backward onlyOnly 60Hz refresh rateSmart Bar (touch-sensitive strip) for all its controls (no Remote controller)Wifi and Bluetooth enabled (not sure if it is available in this model)Microphone and SpeakerMouse and Keyboard connection (via Wire USB Port)Ports: USB-C (video signal, data, 65W charging), 2x USB-A 3.2,Ports: HDMI 2.0, Mini-DisplayPort, 3.5mm audio in/out
With the USB-C to USB-C cable, today is experimenting connecting the almost 6 years old Note 8 (still working fine) to the Huawei Mateview. The Single cable connection acted both as charging to the Note 8 plus also Mirroring to the Monitor. Once the cables were connected to both the devices, there should be a Notification on the Note 8 to toggle to Samsung DEx mode, if not will just be a mirror of the Phone display to the Monitor.
Could be setting issues but found the following:
In Mirror mode
Wasn't too exciting as it is just same phone display exactly on the MonitorYoutube and Netflix can be in FULL screen modeUnfortunately it is not possible for Astro On-the-GO App videos
In Samsung DEx mode
Youtube can be go to FULL screen modeBUT Neflix wasn't possible
Unfortunately it is also not possible for Astro On-the-GO App videos
Not sure why Flickr initially show as Mirror mode and sometimes show as FULL screen
Even 5 windows wasn't a problem
Today's 2nd test on Samsung DEx connection confirms again that Note 8/S8 above Samsung Phones are supported by the Samsung DEx. BUT today's method using USB-C to USB-C connection DID NOT result in overheating the Samsung Note 8, even after connecting the Note 8 to the Monitor for more than 6 hours! Most interesting challenge was being able to Login to SAP using the Note 8 via the Samsung DEx to the Huawei Monitor, without lagging!
