牛肉昆布烏冬 Japanese style Beef Udon HKD$29 👍😋
Budget: HKD$30
MTR nearest: Yau Ma Tei B1 Exit
Thoughts: I would think that this Japanese brand can be a hit in Malaysia. It serves beef and therefore can be halal and therefore at least suitable for almost "most" Malaysians. (it does have locations in Klang Valley but yet to try it, there is one at Subang Jaya SS15 Courtyard).
It's a raining Sunday, I was eager to go to Yau Ma Tei to visit the famous 油麻地果欄 Yau Ma Tei Wholesale Fruit Market. Was here at 8am but it was already winding down in activities (the best time to see all the action is 4-6am)! After that, there are still some stalls open for tourist and locals to buy fruits here. (even Durian)
油麻地果欄 Yau Ma Tei Wholesale Fruit Market's history is almost 100 years, with humble beginnings in 1913 originally known as "Government Vegetables Market" 政府蔬菜市場 which sold fruits and vegetables. In the 1930s, the fish mongers join-in but they have moved to "Cheung Sha Wan Fishery Wholesaling Market" 長沙灣魚類批發市場 when it was openend in 1965. Since then, it has become solely the wholesale point for fruits all over the world coming into Hong Kong.
With a little bit of disappointment of not seeing too much action at the Fruit Market, and rain starts again, I headed for some breakfast. Instead of the usual "Char Chan Teng", walked into a Japanese restaurant for a breakfast of Beef noodle. It is nice!
Yoshinoya is no small business as it is not only the oldest and largest restaurant of beef bowl but it has expanded into over 1800 outlets around the globe. It started as a small shop in 日本橋 Nihonbashi Fish Market in Tokyo selling 牛丼 Gyudon (Beef Bowl in Japanese).
Rating: 6 / 10 👍😋
