Thoughts: "Chow Kuey Teow, Char Koey Teow, Char Kway Teow, Keuy Teow Goreng, Char Keow Teow, or Char Koay Teow"; all mean the same thing. And the word "Char Kway Teow", is the phonetic approximation of the Chinese word 炒粿條 pronounced in 福建話 Hokkien. In a Facebook post published on Sunday, 28 February, 2021; DBP (Dewan Bahasa and Perpustakaan) said neither "kuetiaw goreng" nor "koay teow goreng" or any other spelling is the right spelling for the stir-fried flat rice noodles. First published way back in 1970 by DBP, DBP said that "kuetiau" has been added to the Kamus Dewan, to standardized "kuetiau" as the spelling for the noodles. So, the correct word for 炒粿條 in Malay language should be "kuetiau goreng".

Fried Kway Teow originated from 潮州 Chaozhou and came to Malaysia with the 潮州移民 Chaozhou immigrants. The dish was often sold by 漁民 fishermen, 農民 farmers and 鳥蛤採集者 cockle-gatherers who doubled as "Char Kway Teow" hawkers in the evening to supplement their income. The dish has achieved widespread popularity within the region from the late 20th century onwards, particularly in 馬來西亞 Malaysia and 新加坡 Singapore.  That is why even today, the dish is fried with 鳥蛤 cockles, together with noodles stir fried in 猪油 pork fat (pork lard); a cheap source of energy. However, there are other creative varieties like the "濕炒粿條 Char Kway Teow Basah (wet)", "檳城炒粿條 Penang Char Kway Teow", and also the Halal version of 清真牛肉炒粿條 Char Kway Teow with Beef. There is also the Penang inspired 檳城海鲜炒粿條 Seafood Kway Teow, which can be loaded with giant 大蝦 prawns, 魷魚 squid, 蟹肉 crab meat, or even 螳螂蝦 mantis prawn or 龍蝦 lobsters!
