Thoughts: my food adventure today brings me to Sunwaymas; SunwayMas Commercial Centre is a freehold commercial centre nested in Taman Bukit Mayang Mas, Petaling Jaya. It was developed by SunwayMas Sdn Bhd which is a member of Sunway Holdings Incorporated. There are at least 17 blocks of 3 storey commerical buildings here with around 750+ shop lots, in a 20 acre free-hold land. Adjacent to it are residential areas.
SunwayMas is accessible via Kampung Cempaka from LDP via SS25. From the inner roads of Cempaka village, after a couple of turns around 500 meters to reach Sunwaymas (beware of incoming vehicles and kampung style motorbikes as village roads are very narrow).
And so, I settled at one of the corner shop lots "怡保白咖啡茶室 818 White Coffee Restaurant" and today's breakfast was "过桥米线 Cross-the-Bridge Mee Xian"! The stall is managed by a local who took over the business from a lady from chinese who had return to China; she offered to teach him the recipe before returning to China for good. "过桥米线 Cross-the-Bridge Mee Xian" basically is chicken and pork bone broth (not bad if it is as authentic as the real deal from the original chinese recipe), its comes with generous amount of 米线 and nice 3 layer pork meat, some vege and tofu skin, at a reasonable price of rm$7; the concoction was nice for my liking.
There is one interesting version a story of the origin of "过桥米线 Cross-the-Bridge Mee Xian": it's a 100+year old dish from the Yunnan Province. There was a young couple, the husband was preparing for the Imperial exam, they both built a small hut opposite their little house for his privacy to study for the exam. What separates their house and the hut was a stream with a bridge! During winter, the young wife wanted to keep her husband with a warm stomach, everyday she prepares a big bowl of broth with chicken bones and pork bones. The 米线 vermicelli and pork meats are prepared and kept in a separate container. At meal time, she will then prepare the vermicelli and pork meat into a bowl of hot soup and bring it from their little house across the bridge to the husband; the young wife did the same thing relentlessly everyday for many many seasons until her husband finally passed the imperial exam!
After surveying around the shop lots, there are easily at least a dozen or maybe more kopitiam and several mamak shops; seems to have many breakfast choices here! I shall be back to Sunwaymas for more breakfast!
