哈萨克斯坦巧克力 Kazakhstan Chocolate

20.12.2016 Gifts from Students
KL UOA
This weeks class, I had 2 students from Kazakhstan. And one of them brought chocolates from Kazakhstan. Teaching is fun, not because of gifts the students bring. But the past years, I have truly met people from the 7 continents, whether there are sitting in my class or my blog readers. It is interesting to get to know people for 5 days, sometimes longer (especially in Academies) and then never see them again! It is fun because I learn a lot from them, as they shared their cultures, what they eat and do in their countries.

Kazakhstan chocolate

Notice the dark chocolates are packaged with traditional Russian/Kazakhstan musical instruments. I have learned about the Dombra (picture from web), a Kazakhstan musical instrument.

(the above 2 pictures from the Web)

Thanks to the internet, we could the the music of this beautiful instrument exemplified by this YouTube video "The music of Genghis Khan". I did think that the music piece played really did sound like herds of wild horses racing in the wild.

The Dombra is a two string wooden musical instrument played by plucking. Many songs are connected to ancient mythology and folk religious beliefs. In the YouTube videos, I did see the musicians did very fast strumming. Here is another YouTube video for a movie with a song and the Dombra instrument. I found another beautiful instrument piece here from YouTube.

Kazahsthan Chocolate

In the country of Kazahkstan, there is only one "enterprises" confectionery which is called "Rakhat". With 70 years history and 3500 workers in 2 sites in Kazahstan. It was an interesting to learn about the company developed special production focused on the people, who suffer from diabetes.
