Thoughts: This year's "兔年 Rabbit Year" Chinese new Year decoration theme is "喜氣滿堂 a Year of Abundance" at USJ21's Main Place mall, bringing in some Joyful rabbits to cheer up the atmosphere at the Mall. The efforts are commendable for a neighborhood Mall!
The beliefs and practices of Animal Zodiacs (which is a repeating 12-year cycle of animal signs and their ascribed attributes, based on the 農曆 Lunar Calendar) originates from China, the zodiac and its variations remain popular in many 東亞 East Asian and 東南亞國家 Southeast Asian countries, such as 日本 Japan, 韓國 South Korea, 越南 Vietnam, 新加坡 Singapore, 馬來西亞 Malaysia, 尼泊爾 Nepal, 不丹 Bhutan, 柬埔寨 Cambodia, and 泰國 Thailand. First came the 鼠 Rat, then the 牛 Ox, next the 虎 Tiger; below is the sequence of the Animal Zodiac with the modern animal names and the ancient names.

and those are the 12 Animal Signs of the 十二生肖 Chinese Zodiac.
In Japanese culture, the 12 animals of the Zodiac are known as the "十二支 Jūni Shi"; 鼠 Rat (ネズミNezumi), 牛 Ox (うし Ushi), 虎 Tiger (とら Tora), 兔 Rabbit (うさぎ Usagi), 龍 Dragon (たつ Tatsu), 蛇 Snake (へび Hebi), 馬 Horse (うま Uma), 羊 Sheep (ひつじ Hitsuji), 猴 Monkey (猿 さる Saru), 雞 Rooster (鳥 とり Tori), 狗 Dog (犬 いぬ Inu), 野豬 Boar (いのしし Inoshishi); and looks like the Chinese and Japanese 12 animal Zodiacs are the same.There is a folk tale about why the Cat is not in the Chinese zodiac. One popular story is that the 玉皇大帝 Jade Emperor (like the 古希臘神話 ancient Greek mythology 宙斯神 God of Zeus) announced that 12 animals would be selected from all the animals on earth to represent the Chinese Zodiac signs. All animals should gather together in the 靈霄寶殿 Ling Xiao Bao Dian (天國大殿 The Great Hall of Heaven) the next morning to be selected. At that time, the Rat and the Cat were two good friends living together. The Cat asked the Rat to give her a morning call for the next days meet, so that they can go together as buddies. The Rat promised but the next day he left alone early without waking up the Cat. As a result, the Rat arrived first and was selected as the first of the Zodiac Signs. When the Cat finally arrived at the Great Hall, all 12 animals including the 12th which is the Pig were already chosen by the Jade Emperor. The Cat was very angry at the Rat, therefore he vowed to hunt the Rat down for the rest of eternity, which is why to this day Cats and Rats are still natural enemies. AND that is why the Cat is not in the Chinese 12 animal Zodiac.
