Thoughts: Today is 02.02.2022, and it is time for a movie after more than 2.5 years where the last movie was May 11th 2019 "口袋妖怪侦探皮卡丘 Pokemon Detective Pikachu" in Summit USJ. Today's movie is the annual 香港動作賀歲片 Hong Kong Cantonese Action Movie debut for the CNY 2022 Year Of The Tiger 新倚天屠龍記之九陽神功 New Kungfu Cult Master Part 1 at USJ1 Damen's new Cinema "大地影院 DADI Cinema".

Fun Facts: Dadi Cinema Group (Chinese: 大地影院集团), established in 2006 is a Chinese cinema chain comprises of 5 Cinema Brands where 大地影院 DADI Cinema is one of them. It is now the second largest cinema chain in China and reported to have at least Cinemas in 191 Cities. After months of postponement due to the pandemic, DADI Cinema launched two outlets in Pavilion KL and Damen USJ respectively on November 1, 2021 and According to Dadi Cinema, Malaysia is their first location in attempting to bring the brand overseas. While DADI at Pavilion KL replaced the now-defunct GSC outlet which shut down due to the Pandemic, DADI in USJ Damen is a new one for the Mall.

Today's CNY movie "新倚天屠龍記之九陽神功 New Kungfu Cult Master" which is Part 1, in fact the movie ends with a preview of Part 2! "新倚天屠龍記之九陽神功 New Kungfu Cult Master Part 1" is the re-make of the 王晶 Jing Wong's 1993 "倚天屠龍記之魔教教主" with familiar but older Hong Kong actors.

"倚天屠龍 Heavenly Sword Dragon Slaying Saber" is one of the the works of 香港作家金庸所著武俠小說 Hong Kong Marvel writer "金庸大師 Master Jin Yong" with the timeline happening during 明朝天下為背景 Ming Dynasty. The story first appeared in a Hong Kong newspaper "明報 Ming Pao" in 1961 as a serial story 連載 with 40 episodes for 2 years. The story then appeared as a Novel, Comic, in Movies as well as TV series. "倚天屠龍 Heavenly Sword Dragon Slaying Saber" storyline centers around a 屠龍刀 Dragon Saber, which is a 寶刀 Treasured sword 百餘斤重 weighing more than 100 kilograms. 傳說 Legend says：「武林至尊，寶刀屠龍，號令天下，莫敢不從」, 因稱「武林至尊 Wulin Supreme」而被武林中人視為寶物，引得各個門派紛紛爭奪 Attract various Sects to compete for the Treasured Sword of 屠龍刀 Dragon Saber Sword.

1993, 29 years ago is the director 王晶 Jing Wong's "倚天屠龍記之魔教教主" first movie on the famous "倚天屠龍 Heavenly Sword Dragon Slaying Saber" novel. 29 years later, the story is a familiar one where 張無忌 Zhang Wuji, the son of 武當派 Wudang School 張翠山 Zhang Cuishan (played by the 51 years old 古天樂 Louis Koo ), was inadvertently involved in the strife caused by the 屠龍刀 Dragon Sabre. Due to fate, 張無忌 Zhang Wuji was able to practice a 蓋世武功 world-class martial arts (九陽神功) and became "明教教主 Leader of Ming Jiao" at the age of 20 (this time played by the 42 year old 林峯 Raymond Lam Fung), the storyline is then mainly the battle between 明教 Mingjiao and the Five martial arts Sect 武林五大門派 (少林派 Shaolin, 峨嵋派 Emei, 崆峒派 Kongdong, 崑崙派 Kunlun, and 華山派 Huashan) in the 中原 Central Plains and the confrontation between the 起義軍 uprising army and the 腐朽的朝廷 corrupt imperial court.

In 1993, 王晶 Jing Wong 導演 directed and also as the 編劇 screenwriter of the movie 倚天屠龍記之魔教教主 but that movie fetched only 1200萬港元票房 (12 million HK$) while it is rumored that the production cost of the film was as high as 五六千萬港元 (50 to 60 million HK$). As the result of that and rumored that the famed 李連杰 Jet Li's worth sky rocketed soon after 1993, the planned sequel titled "倚天屠龍記之陰陽聖火令" was shelved indefinitely. And at that time, it was also a crazy booming time for the Hong Kong movie scene with too many "武俠電影 Martial Arts movies" and a there were a crazy total of at least 130 new Hong Kong movies in 1993 alone.

Both the 1993 and 2022 "倚天屠龍記" are directed by 67 year old 王晶 Wang Jing (also known as 晶哥 Brother Jing or 肥螳螂 Fat Mantis), who is one of Hong Kong's most 多產量 prolific and 有爭議 controversial 電影製片人 filmmakers. 王晶 Wang Jing is also known as both "爛片王 The King of Bad Movies" as well as "票房王 King of Box Office" in the Hong Kong movies scene; but he is also the 中國導演總票房前10名 top 10 Chinese directors in total box office. BUT too many film critics evaluate Wang Jing's films as "粗俗 vulgar" and "低级 low class"! On the other hand, in the almost 30 years of 王晶 Wang Jing's career, he was 導演 Director or 演員 Actor and 製作 Producer in at least 400 Hong Kong movies (probably still the top movie maker in Hong Kong to date), with a total Box office of 六十億港元 Sixty Billion HK$ (in 2018)! Despite with the title of "爛片王 The King of Bad Movies", 王晶 Wang Jing has worked with some of the 多位巨星 biggest Superstars in Hong Kong: 周潤發 Chow Yun-fat's "賭神系列 God of Gamblers series", 周星馳 Stephen Chow in "九品芝麻官 Nine Pin Sesame Official", 李連杰 Jet Li in "倚天屠龍記 Eternal Dragon Saber", and 劉德華Andy Lau's "最佳損友 Best Bad Friend".

Fun Facts: 王晶 Wang Jing's 1993 "倚天屠龍記 Eternal Dragon Saber" reportedly took just 7 days to complete filming with Superstars like 李連杰 Jet Li and 洪金寶 Sammo Hung as well as 1990s 當紅女星 Popular Actresses of 邱淑貞 Chingmy Yau Suk-ching, 張敏 Sharla Cheung Man, and 黎姿 Gigi Lai. BUT when the movie first appeared in Hong Kong Cinemas, it did not impressed the film critics and quickly appeared as another 王晶爛片 Wang Jin BAD Movie! Apparently because 王晶 Wang Jing included in the movie his typical classic "招牌的低俗笑料 low class Jokes on woman" and also changed the original 原著金庸 Jin Yong's 張無忌 Zhang Wuji character from a 敦厚善良 Honest and Kind Hearted person to one who is 腹黑 black bellied and a 有心機 scheming one! Readers, Fans and those familiar with 原著金庸小说 Jin Yong's Original Novel "倚天屠龍記 Eternal Dragon Saber" would probably not like what 王晶 Wang Jin's version of the Novel in his movie. BUT at the same time, 王晶 Wang Jin's fans who liked his movie making styles considered the 1993 "倚天屠龍記 Eternal Dragon Saber" as a 經典武俠片 Classic Martial Arts Movie.

29 years later, 王晶 Jing Wong finally fulfill his wish in the remake of "倚天屠龍記" as "新倚天屠龍記之九陽神功 New Kungfu Cult Master Part 1" with a cost of about 約3.7億港元 (370 million HK$) as 2022's 賀歲片 Chinese New Year movie. At the end of Part 1, there were already snippets of Part 2 and the official trailer of Part 2 can already be found in YouTube and it is called "新倚天屠龍記之聖火雄風 New Kungfu Cult Master Part 2"! In China, both Part 1 "倚天屠龍記之九陽神功" and Part 2 "倚天屠龍記之聖火雄風" were Broadcasted in China mainland only in Internet platforms such as 騰訊 Tencent, 愛奇藝 iQiyi and 優酷 Youku, released respective on January 31 and February 4th. While in 新加坡 Malaysia and 馬來西亞 Singapore, Part 1 was Released in 電影院形式上映 Cinemas on 大年初 New Year's Day. Today's movie ticket at Damen's DADI was rm$25 (including tax) but in internet platforms in China was as low as 5Yuan (rm$2.50) for members!

Part 2 "倚天屠龍記之聖火雄風 New Kungfu Cult Master 2" is due to release in 全馬上映 Malaysia Cinemas in February 17! The preparation and filming of the new 2022 "倚天屠龍記" reportedly took 3 years plus 370 million HK$ compared to the 7 days of the 1993 version using 60 million HK$. The 42 year old 林峯 Raymond Lam Fung (a non Martial Arts actor) as 張無忌 Zhang Wu Ji definitely wasn't as impressive as 1993's 29 years old 李連杰 Jet Li. The women actress (girls of the 90s) that replaced the 1993 邱淑貞 Chingmy Yau Suk-ching, 張敏 Sharla Cheung Man, and 黎姿 Gigi Lai are from a different era. Although in Part 2 "倚天屠龍記之聖火雄風 New Kungfu Cult Master 2", 王晶 Wang Jing invited 53 year old "張敏 Sharla Cheung Man" only in a PROMO CLIP for the same role as "蒙古族人趙敏 Mongolian Zhao Min" where she played the same role 29 years ago in the 1993 version at the age of 24!.
