BUT there are a few perhaps not so well known that serve equally good Nasi Kandar in the town. One of them is Nasi Kandar Imigresen, located at Lorong Pasar off Jalan Masjid Kapitan Kelling, nearby to Penang Goddess of Mercy Temple, this particular Nasi Kandar has been around since 1949.
Nasi Kandar Imigresen is operated as a Push Cart stall sitting at the side entrance to a Chinese Kopitiam called "Asia Cafe". Nasi Kandar Imigresen customer can dine in at the Chinese Kopitiam provided they also order a drink (a glass of water is the minimum). The Kopitiam also offers Chinese Vegetarian food as well. This combination is uniquely Malaysia as Chinese, Indian, and Malay can have their Nasi Kandar in a Chinese Kopitiam with the Chinese Temple "觀音廟 Goddess of Mercy Temple (1728)" just 100m from the stall, while 200m away is the "甲必丹吉寧清真寺 Kapitan Keling Mosque (1801)" and the opposite street is the "馬里安曼興都廟 Sri Mahamariamman Indian Temple (1883)".
Today's 扁擔飯 Nasi Kandar lunch is rm$16 which comes with 白飯 half-white rice, 茄子 eggplant, 魚子 fish egg, 炒高麗菜 fried cabbage, 半顆鹹蛋 half a salted egg and 一包印度薄餅 a packet of papadam and of course the 混合印度咖哩醬 mixed indian curry sauce.
