Thoughts: Today's lunch is Banana Leaf Rice at USJ14's "摩迪瑪泰餐廳 Moorthy's Mathai Restaurant", rm$7.50 is the basic Banana Leaf meal with 3 vegetables: 菠菜 Spinach, 土豆 Potato, and 茄子 Brinjal with 白飯 white rice on a large piece of banana leaf. Available gravy are 印度黃扁豆咖哩 Dhal, 咖哩雞汁 Curry chicken, or 咖哩魚汁 Curry fish, with a few piece of 印度香脆餅 pappadam, and a piece of 乾辣椒 dry chili. And for an extra rm$7 - rm$10, you can get either 羊肉 Mutton, 大蝦 Prawns, "馬沙拉"烏賊 Sotong Masala, 印度幹咖哩雞 Chicken Varuval, 炸烏賊 Sotong Goreng, or 魚卵 Fish egg; if you get 3 of them, costs of the meal will be rm$35 - rm$40! "Moorthy's Mathai Restaurant" has been in USJ4 for more than 6 years now, and 3 years ago the family business also open the "Moorthy's Mathai RestoBar" just a few shop lots from the Restaurant, which opens at 3pm daily and should still be in business. 

Like many other Indian restaurants, Moorthy's also offers variety of 印度煎餅 Indian Roti, "多屑" Thosai, Capati 印度全麥煎餅,, 印度餡料煎餅 Murtabak, 印度小吃 Indian snacks (like Idli, Apam etc) and 印度小炒 Goreng Goreng; and besides the Banana Leaf rice, 印度香飯 Biryani rice is also available here. At the entrance, you can also find a variety of 印度餅乾和小吃 Indian biscuits and snacks; and before when Dine-in was prohibited, Moorthy's also offers fresh vegetables for sale! 

USJ4 Moorthy's Mathai takes up 2 shop lots, with 1 of the shop lot fully air-conditioned with a seating capacity of maybe 50-60 people with 18 tables. Many times here for take-away and dine-in, MPSJ parking is usually available as this is the only eatery along this row of shop lots (but is more difficult around lunch hours). The Indian restaurant resume Dine-in just 4 weeks ago, and it is still a popular spot for breakfast and lunch with Indians and Chinese as the main customers. 

Although Moorhty's Mathai is only a 6 years old restaurant in USJ4, the founder K.O. Mathai was already in business since 1969 (more than 50 years ago). Back in 1969, Mr Mathai who hailed from 印度喀拉拉邦 Kerala, operated his humble stall that sold simple Indian food within a Chinese coffee shop that was located below the iconic Rumah Tumpangan Peking. The star of Mr. Mathai's stall was his signature dish "煎馬鮫魚 Fried Tenggiri Fish". In 1992, Mr. Mathai pass on his skills to his godson, Moorthy Rengasamy who then started "Moorthy's Mathai Indian Rice" at the 吉隆坡十五碑 Brickfields location in KL. After some years, Mr Moorthy sold his Brickfields businesses and took a one year 休假 sabbatical before restarting the "New Moorthy Mathai" together with his son Mr Shiva (then a young chef) in Sunway Damansara and shortly on February 2016 in USJ4. The Father and Son Duo also open another outlet in Taipan 2, Ara Damansara (run by Moorthy’s good friend, Leslie Lim).

Fun Facts: 香蕉葉拼盤 Banana leaf platter is a 傳統 traditional method of serving rice dishes in 南印度美食 South Indian cuisine. Due to the migration of South Indians to the South East Asian countries during the 英國殖民時期 British Colonization, 香蕉葉飯 banana leaf rice can also be found in areas with 大量南印度移民 significant ethnic South Indian migrants such as that in 馬來西亞 Malaysia and 新加坡 Singapore. 

In a 典型 typical 香蕉葉餐 Banana leaf meals, 白米飯 white rice (or 半熟米飯 parboiled rice in 正宗的南印度餐廳 authentic South Indian restaurants) is served on a 香蕉葉 banana leaf with combination of usually 3 or more items of 蔬菜 vegetables, 泡菜 pickles, 印度香脆餅 pappadam and other regional 調味品 condiments (usually 酸 sour, 咸 salty or 辣 spicy). The banana leaf acts as a 一次性盤子 disposable plate and the choice of banana leaves is mainly due to the broad leaves as well as to the ubiquity of the plant in South India. Typically, only vegetarian gravy will be served on the rice as it is meant to be a traditional 素食菜餚 vegetarian dish. However, sometimes 煮雞蛋 boiled eggs, 咖哩 curried or 炸肉 fried meat (of 羊肉 mutton and 雞肉 chicken) or 海鮮 seafood are served as well.
