Food Thoughts: Both Nasi Kak Wok and Roti Titab are familiar to Kelantanese folks. It is a nostalgic simple dish for those from Kelantan. The story goes that a Malay lady "锅姐" "Kak Wok" owns a simple stall selling her recipe of simple one dish cooking of curry chicken on rice. Her cooking became so famous that people from all over Kelantan came to visit her stall. Many others than try to emulate her style of a single dish serving with curry chicken and curry gravy and even called it "Nasi Kak Wok". It is unkown that any of these other stalls are related to the original "Kak Wok". Even in Shah Alam, if you google "Kak Wok", you can easily have several search results.
Nasi Kak Wok is a single dish either curry chicken or fish, any time you visit a stall offering Nasi Kak Wok, you are served with whatever is prepared for that day either fish or chicken! Today, the flavorful curry gravy and fried chicken with the rice are served in a paper wrap, I must say the taste is really not bad at all.
Next is the Roti Titab which is really french toast with half-boiled egg and coconut kaya on the side (nothing special) but the story behind Roti Titab comes with a twist!. It is a signature dish inspired by the owner Wong Nai Hua (61) of Kopitiam Kita in Kota Bahru. The meal was patented recently! According to Mr Wong who started his business 13 years ago in KB that the inspiration of Roti Titab came from his visit to China in 2010. He then improvised it to offer it to residents of KB and called it "Roti Titab" as it is easy to remember, it has now become a famous breakfast choice in KB. Mr Wong apply and obtained a copyright/trademark to Roti Titab from myIPO (Malaysia Interlectual Property Coporation) early in May this year and he and his shop Kopitiam Kita owns the legal trademark of Roti Titab for 10 years until 2026. That said, lets not duel into the legality of this little corner stall in shah alam whether they have the right to sell "Roti Titab" or Nasi Kak Wok made famous by someone else!
