Thoughts: In KLIA2, 鼎泰豐 DIN by Din Tai Fung finally opened its 2nd Pork free outlet in May 2023; DIN by Din Tai Fung is the first non-pork restaurant by Din Tai Fung in Malaysia, following more than ten outlets in the Middle East and Indonesia. 鼎泰豐 Din Tai Fung is a globally renowned award-winning chain of restaurants with 140 outlets around the world. It was voted by 紐約時報 The New York Times as the World’s Top 10 restaurants and 美國有線電視新聞網 CNN voted it as the Top 2 franchise for travelers.
The origins of the 米其林指南一星 One Michelin Din Tai Fung can be traced back to 1958, when founder 楊秉彝 Yang Bingyi the first Din Tai Fung shop in Taipei, 台灣 Taiwan. Born in 1927 in China’s northern 山西省 Shanxi province, 楊老先生 Yang immigrated to Taiwan when he was 20 “with 20 dollars in his pocket”. He opened a 一家小店 small shop in Taiwan’s capital 台北 Taipei with his wife, naming it 鼎泰豐 Din Tai Fung and selling cooking oil and Xiao Long Bao, steamed Chinese soup dumplings often made with pork. The business took off and the restaurant became synonymous with dumplings as well as dishes like steamed buns, egg fried rice and noodles. It expanded into a franchise, with outlets in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, United Arab Emirates, South Korea and Singapore. And in 馬來西亞 Malaysia, Din Tai Fung first outlet is in The 吉隆坡谷中花園購物中心 Gardens Mall back in 2007. Today, the 台灣護國神山 Taiwanese F&B Pride have Eight outlets across Malaysia with 5 in 巴生谷 Klang Valley and 1 each at 檳城 Penang and 新山 Johor Bahru; and of course the latest Pork free outlet in KLIA2.

Looks like the KLIA2 outlet opens daily for 22 hours (from 3am to 1am)! It is located at the main departure hall at Level 3 (opposite Starbucks). The Dim Sums sampled today were of shrimp and chicken (without pork), nice but lacking that familiar porky flavor!
