Dáo Desserts (meaning "soy" or "bean" 豆 in Cantonese pronunciation) was established in 2018 by three siblings Carmen, Joe, and Kelly Lau to bring their family's traditional Ipoh soy-based dessert recipe to a wider audience, starting in the Klang Valley. Tofufa, also known as 豆花 douhua, 豆腐花 doufuhua, or tau foo fah, originated in China over 2,000 years ago, with records dating back to the Han dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD). Earliest records in China refer to it as 豆腐脑 dòufunǎo, or "tofu brains" due to its extremely soft, delicate texture.
