02.07.2017 Breakfast
@ 金记好好食云吞面家 Good Taste Restaurant USJ 10
50, Jalan SS 14/2, 47610, Subang Jaya
碳烧面包 Charcoal Toast Bread $3.30
半生熟蛋 Half boil egg $3.50
鸳鸯 Cham $3.00
水饺(5粒) Dumpling $6.90
Thoughts: Very nice combination, the bread, egg, and cham were expensive but that charcoal bread was very nice. Particularly like the charcoal toasted bread that goes well with the cham. Ending breakfast with additional order for 5 pieces of dumpling (pork), too bad its without water chestnut.
I avoided my favorite Chicken Feet Wan Ton Mee and Claypot Loh Si Fun, both I have tried; so, I decided on something different. It seems that the Charcoal bread is their Signature dish but a little bit pricey. Around $18 for a satisfying local breakfast on a Sunday, I suppose it is OK as tomorrow will be first day back to teach in KL.
金记好好食云吞面家 Good Taste Restaurant has branches at USJ 10 Taipan, Bukit Jalil, Taman Dahlia Cheras, PJ SS2/64, PJ SS22/19, and I think SS 14. The restaurant is 3 generations, it is giving a little competition to the old wantan mee stalwarts like Koon Kee 冠记云吞面 and Ho Weng Kee 何荣记云吞面 in KL. I have tasted all of them, I personally think each has its own specialties and on some days I like one better than the other! If you like WanTon Mee, and if you happen to be in KL, PJ, or Subang, you should be trying them. However these 老字號 are not the only good WanTon Mee restaurants, there are others who quietly serve their regulars/locals who are equally good if not better.
Specialty noodle shops like these usually sells all things at higher prices compared to hawkers at coffee shops, likely 25%-33% higher. Instead of $6, its around $9 for WanTon Mee; TehC is $1+ higher here at $3++ compared to below $2 in coffee shops.
