擂茶 Lei Cha, originally a 一種地方風味的小吃 local snack in the 中原 Central Plains during the turbulent 三國時代 Three Kingdoms era (1800 years ago), was also called "三生湯 San Sheng Tang" in ancient times. It is also known as "鬥茶 Dou Cha", "紅軍茶 Red Army Tea", and in some places, " 打油茶 Da You Cha". It is 中國最古老的茶道之一 one of the oldest tea ceremonies in China. 
"擂茶 Lei Cha" is considered a 客家菜 Hakka dish because the culinary tradition of 將茶葉和其他食材磨成糊狀 grinding tea leaves and other ingredients into a paste, which is the core of "擂茶 Lei Cha," originated with the 客家人 Hakka people, and the name itself translates to "搗碎的茶 pounded tea" in the Hakka dialect, with "擂 Lei" meaning "磨 grind" or "搗碎 pound" in the Hakka dialect.
